Signing and Encrypting Your Files

You use Windows Explorer to sign and encrypt your files. You may choose to sign and encrypt all items under folders and sub-folders, to wipe the original files after a certain action is done. You may also change the encryption and signature algorithms as well as other options. For more information on how to change these options refer to Changing Options.

Once the action is completed new files are shown in the Windows Explorer with file extension "xcs", "xce" or "xcb". The meanings of these file extensions are listed in the following table.

xcs Digitally signed file
xcb Digitally signed and then encrypted file

Signing Files

To sign files

  1. Login if you are not currently logged in;
  2. Select items (files and folders) you want to encrypt;
  3. Right-click the mouse button on these selected items;
  4. Select iSafeguard and then Sign from the popup menu;
  5. Select one signer from the list;
  6. Click the OK button.

Encrypting Files

To encrypt files

  1. Login if you are not currently logged in;
  2. Select items (files and folders) you want to encrypt;
  3. Right-click the mouse button on these selected items;
  4. Select iSafeguard and then Encrypt from the popup menu;
  5. Select one or more recipients from the list;
  6. Click the OK button.

Signing & Encrypting Files

To sign and encrypt files

  1. Login if you are not currently logged in;
  2. Select items (files and folders) you want to encrypt;
  3. Right-click the mouse button on these selected items;
  4. Select iSafeguard and then Sign & Encrypt from the popup menu;
  5. Select a signer and one or more recipients from the list;
  6. Click the OK button.

Decrypting & Verifying

To decrypt and verify files

  1. Login if you are not currently logged in;
  2. Select items (files and folders) you want to decrypt & verify;
  3. Right-click the mouse button on these selected items;
  4. Select iSafeguard and then Decrypt & Verify from the popup menu;
  5. Chang the default options if you want to;
  6. Click the OK button.

Displaying Crypto Properties

To display the crypto properties of an encoded file

  1. Login if you are not currently logged in;
  2. Select a signed and/or encrypted file;
  3. Right-click the mouse button on the selected file;
  4. Select iSafeguard and then Properties from the popup menu;
  5. The crypto properties dialog shows;
  6. Click the OK button when done.

Wiping Files

To wipes files

  1. Select items (files and folders) you want to wipe;
  2. Right-click the mouse button on these selected items;
  3. Select iSafeguard and then Wipe from the popup menu;
  4. Optionally change the wipe options;
  5. Click the OK button.
